Norm Fusaro, W3IZ, Assistant Manager, Field Service & Radiosport
Dept. reports that the Club Update mechanism has been upgraded.
Now when a club updates the information on the ARRL club pages
the changes are displayed as soon as the information is
submitted. The tutorial on the club page www.arrl.org/clubs has
been updated to reflect the changes in the updating procedure.
Here is the direct link to the pdf tutorial.
http://www.arrl.org/files/file/Clubs/Club%20Update%20Online_20150806.pdf.
You can copy and paste this link into your search engine. It is
important to get the club information updated on a regular basis
so that Club Contact information will be correct and reduce the
number of items returned to HQ because of a bad address. The
updating will also keep your club on the ACTIVE CLUB list. Most
know that a club once it is affiliated, it is affiliated forever,
but to be considered an ACTIVE Club it needs to update its
information at least every two years. When new officers are
elected it is a good time to make the updates. If you have any
questions about any of this or other club business please contact
Norm at w3iz@arrl.org or call him at 860-594-0230.
AUGUST HAMFEST 2015
The Joplin Amateur Radio Club Hamfest was an event to remember.
The attendance was outstanding and there was an impressive number
of commercial and flea market vendors. The door prizes were
amazing. It was nice to hear all the applause when the grand
prize was awarded. John Frederick, N9GOU, JARC Pres. And Jim
Scott, WB0IYC, JARC V-Pres. did a wonderful job making sure that
the Hamfest was a success. You had to be impressed with all the
hard work by the JARC members and the air conditioned Joplin
Trade Center facility. This year's JARC Hamfest was the only one
in my memory that had a NO WAKE zone on the main exit. At around
10:00 a.m., there was an enormous rain storm that produced so
much rain that it created a flash flood in the tiny stream next
to the Convention Center. The flood water began to rise at a
fantastic rate and spilled over the banks into the lower end of
the Convention Center parking area. Realizing that the vehicles
parked in that part of the parking lot were in danger, the JARC
announcer informed everyone that they needed to move their cars.
Not everyone heard the warning, but many waded through the water
and moved their vehicles to higher ground.

AFFILIATED CLUB NEWS
KEITH HAYE, WE0G, ACC
The St. Louis Suburban Radio Club will be turning October 17th
into a mega-event weekend. The Oct 17th weekend marks the
opening of the club's special event commemorating the 50th
anniversary of the completion of the Gateway Arch. To celebrate,
the SLSRC will begin operating the special event call-sign WOA
from October 17 to October 31st. Most of the special event will
be operated by club members from their home stations. However, to
get things kicked off with a bang, the SLSRC will set up a
mini-Field Day configuration at Stacey Park to give this event a
Grand Opening kickoff. In addition to the WOA special event, the
club will be hosting their annual picnic on that date.
At the August Hannibal Amateur Radio Club meeting Larry Lauer,
WB2UFO, made a presentation about the August 15th and 16th Mark
Twain Lighthouse Memorial Event. The event is part of the
International Lighthouse Weekend. Arrangements were made with
the City to use the shelter house at Glascock's Landing on the
riverfront. The Club has not participated in the International
Lighthouse Weekend in 10 years. The Mark Twain Lighthouse will be
on the air from about 9:00am to 7:00pm on Saturday Aug. 15th .
The HARC thanked Cliff, K0CA, Larry, WB2UFO, and Bonnie, WB0WAP,
for designing some very attractive QSL cards and certificates.
Don Vary, KD0HHN, HARC President noted that the Mark Twain
Lighthouse event went well. The operation made 51 QSOs during
this year's event and that other than the weather being a little
warm, it was a great day to be operating.
Don't forget to participate in the Route 66 on the Air this year.
The Special event is supported by four Missouri Section Amateur
Radio Clubs. The St. Louis ARC will operate as W6P, The Lebanon
ARC will be W6O, The Springfield ARC W6R and Joplin ARC will be
W6N. September 12th through the 20th. To get more info, go to
http://w6jbt.org/.
Keep a look out for the Macon County ARC Lester Dent Special
event from LaPlata, MO in Northern MO on October 10th and 11th.
Lester Dent W0CBL, was the author and adventurer who created the
first Super Hero Doc Savage in the early 1930s. To get more info
