I have sent a bull about this subject before. I have a different camera
Ian. However, here is something to compare yours with.

I have had a Canon A70 3.2 MegaPixel Digital camera for over a year now. I
am extremely critical of everything that I intend to buy and do
considerable research on it as a rule. My sister had a 2 Megapixel Canon
A40 and made very happy noises about it. I did considerable research on
others and so I was quite happy at buying this particular one. The thing
which sold me on it was this.

Knowing how greedy digital screens on cameras were (The first LED watches
were a case in point too) and that with the screen left on the batteries
would quickly die, I had held off buying one. One would be lucky to use
the screen for setup alone and then switching it off necessitating using
it as little as possible. My sister told me that she NEVER turned her
screen off! Hers was around a 1" screen. This amazed me as she was taking
100's of pictures!

Some two months later, I bought the succesor to hers, the A70. It has a
1.5" screen. Quite smaller than your 3.5" screen!! I use Ni-MH and or
Ni-Cads. Anything from 700MaH to 1.8 Amps.I have a considerable mix. After
a year, I have to say that it is brilliant. I can use around 2 x 128 and 1
x 256 MB Compact Flash cards taking some 300 highest res pictures and
RARELY change my batteries more than once. I carry two sets of spare
batteries but have never used both sets AND the camera set.

In the beginning, I was too busy taking pictures and just could not be
bothered to read the book to find out how to switch the flash off and so
kept using the flash when it was not really necessary! If I cannot figure
out how to run something new then I feel that the equipment is NOT
"user-friendly" and I just took dozens of pictures. If it had been a
problem, then I would have looked it up earlier. It was not.

Eventually, I read the manual and switched it off! Battery useage has
hardly changed! It may have cost a bit more (Ok a lot more, <œ300 but it
is considerably cheaper now) than yours, but I would happily buy another
Canon. Regards, Jeff.
