Hi Mchud

I have a 4.1 Megapixel Digital Camera with a Compact Flash card being a 32Mb
which came with the camera and I also bought a 64Mb CF card at the same time.
Obviously this camera does leave the photo's taken in the CF cards and does
not matter if the batteries go flat. An expensive camera. It has " All singing
all Dancing " built in features.

I then bought a WebCam " Aiptek " which has 16Mb of Fixed memory and does not
lose any taken photo's if the batteries go flat. This was 49.99 ukp, not so
expensive but cheaper than a Logitech which I think are overpriced anyway.

Being on the "Serif" postal circular list I received and offer of would you
believe for the same camera plus a selection of software, Plus a 4 port USB
(v1.1) mini Hub..All of this for 30.00 so the camera was very much cheaper
than the selling price of a L'espion ( Andy's was free ) BUT the Aiptek still
has the 16Mb of Fitted Memory.

The supplied AAA alkaline batteries lasted just 14 days but not a photo was
lost despite having Auto-shut-off after 60 seconds. Resolutions of 304 x 240 &
1246 x 960 and also a Low battery indicator among a number of features.

Next thing was then I needed a printer and saw an offer in a computer shop in
the Town Centre. I bought the Epson C62 at a reduced price and I obtained a
Free Jenoptik C160 Digital Camera slightly larger than the size of the
L'espion but it only has 2Mb of fitted memory which is lost when the batteries
expire and also one cannot change the batteries so they must be
downloaded/uploaded
(depends if you are standing on your head :-) ) ASAP. Image storage is 352 x
288 pixels which will give 19 images without compression, 38 images with
compression. With 176 x 144 pixels is either 76 or 152 images. The store
advertise this camera as RRP of 39.99 which is rubbish.

The same computer store must have 1,000's of the cameras as the camera is
offered with many items. One was pay 18.99 for " The Dummies Guide to Digital
Photography " and the camera for 1 ukp. This camera takes 3-AAA alkaline
batteries supplied. This camera can also be used as a Web Cam but no stand
supplied. This camera Does Not have a flash.

In the manual of the Aiptek it states. " If the camera is connected to the PC,
the power is supplied via the USB connection. In this case you can if
necessary remove the batteries without deleting the pictures stored in the
camera".

The Aiptek comes with a Pod to rest/fix on the PC/Monitor and is only 85mm x
26mm x 30mm being L X B X H and also comes with a neck strap and quick release
clip. This camera does not have a Flash.

Good software and a very good manual which I heard from the late Fred G0TCM
was just about a piece of paper with the L'espion.

The Aiptek from Medion also has as a very good manual whereas the same camera
from Serif is just one sheet of paper in many languages ( and I am struggling
translating the Chinese ) so glad there was a tiny section in English which of
course I did not need anyway having the Medion manual.

So you can see that some digital cameras can be bought cheap other than free
and perhaps my interpretation of Fixed Memory was slightly incorrect when I
referred to it as Flash Memory..Apologies for that.

Another supermarket I was in today has on offer a 5.1 Mega Pixel Digital
Camera marked down from 299.99 to 199.99 and is the same make as my one with 3
optical zoom. It is from Germany but their after sales service is excellent.
The warranty card gives n 0800 number and I ended up in Germany. I had not
registered the camera but there was no little plastic box for the 32Mb CF card
and a clear plastic shield on the charger was chipped. There is also supplied
a PSU for displaying on the TV so the batteries are never used.

Replacements were received by me in 48 hours direct from Germany. Being an
0800 number did not bother me if I was in the usual queue.

Another lesson in economics in consumer electronics was brought to you by
John G4YUU !

Oh dear I have forgotten that it is "Plagurism" to use your statement/altered
and also it is " Copywrite ".
