Hi,

I've just been watching a re-run of the 'Dunkirk' documentary type program. I
saw a method of sorting (picking) out ordinary cards containing matching data,
which I have never seen before.

Basically if you imagine maybe 100 cards stacked in a drawer, with their top
edges poking out above the drawer. The top edges are punched with rows of
holes or a gap (open at the top 'hole'), where each is located depends upon
the type of data stored on each card. A rod is then poked through a row of the
holes/gaps and lifted. Only the cards with no gap are pulled out of the filing
system.

Having rather an interest in such novel ideas, it is strange I have never seen
the method before.
