I made a remark about Google Earth and was taken up on it by one
packeteer.
I had better explain.

I have been looking at my local pictures and they are quite old. I thought
that the pictures shown on GE were supposed to be as of now but they
obviously are not. In fact some are at least four months old, maybe mmore
than that. Is GE then a reliable source? How often are the pictures
updated? Well it is not up to date at present, that is certain.

Turn up Google Earth and find Albany and down near Middleton Beach you
will find my Bowling Club with three greens laid with grass, not far from
the ocean front. The greens are shown as of grass and there is a fence
around.

The problem is that there has been a firm working there converting those
greens to carpet and they have been there for at least four months. Two of
those grass greens are grass no longer. They are carpet with terracotta
coloured banks, and furthermore in spite of what is ahown on GE there is
no fence around part of the area; it was removed to allow access for the
trucks and earth working machinery. The container in which the materisl
were brought is not there either so the pictures are even older than four
months..

That means that those pictures are old. That is my problem with Google
Earth, mentioned by Warren in his inimitable fashion in a post yesterday.I
am confused by Google Earth and don't know how to use it? No, in this
instance Google Earth is not showing a true picture of the current
situation. It is old stuff. The evidence is there.
Cheers,
Bob VK6BE.
