Hi Bill and those following this thread,
Most likely the 'chutist couldn't avoid the power lines since they
weren't steerable in 1966. I don't suppose that placing markers along the
lines is worth the cost since I'm sure the club is well aware of their
presence, they're put in places where one may expect the unexpected.
That's the whole idea behind putting them near waterways where ducks and
geese fly, once in a while there will be a paraglider up there with them
and even a SAR helo or light aircraft. That was my point all along, birds
have excellent eyesight and won't fly into power lines even if they were
large enough to cross phases in flight, markers are there to warn humans.
Finally the phrase "I don't know" was seen, 'twarms th' cockles o' me
