Hello Pete and others:

I actually forgot Burn's Night this year until it was too late to buy a
haggis. Your marinated fish dish sounds nice but - South American chips !?

I do prefer our fat British chips to the skinny 'french froes' they eat
som much nowadays.
On the topic of food, the discussion of horsemeat quietly simmers on. The
latest revelation is that horsemeat is found in certain fast food outlets
such as BurgerKing. Nobody has yet mentioned the religious food laws which
ban eating horse, something to do with not having a cloven hoof. Still,
horsemeat is apparently one third the price of beef steak and money talks
louder than the Bible................

As for that town which the RAF bombed with Mosquitoes, I have been racking
my brain to try to remember it. The film was made in the 60s and, for some
reason, it has not been repeated. It was you who siggested that the
appearance of cross dressing Corporal Klinger might be the reason why they
haven't repeated M#A#S'H sice the early 80s. It might upset monorities -
how sad! Something similar might have happened with the film about the
Mossies. I can't think what.

As for Beatrix retiring, I remember when I first went to the Netherlands
that about half the Guilders had Juliana's head on them and she hadn't
been queen for years. it would seem that, with Juliana followed by
Beatrix, Holland has had two queens for 100 years and Beatrix thinks it
might be nice to have a King.

I did mention the chat I had in my hotel with someone else from a
monarchy, one rainy day and we came to the conclusion that, for the
ordinary man n the street, it didn't matter whether you lived in a
monarchy or a republic, it made no difference. After all, with Mad Maggie
and Tony Bliar, we have had a couple of really bad prime ministers. It
would have beeen just as bad if they had been presidents.

I like the idea of the A380 in RAF markings, of course, the RAF uses
mainly the hercules and a couple of Galaxies, which need a very long
runway, so they have no need for an A380 but, if it is built down to a
price, it would make a good replacement for the above.

CUL.
