Hi Ray and all,
That's what Tank FM is all about man! Unfortunately we don't have that
sort of local community broadcasting in my area, we've had a lot of
issues with LPFM licensing and anyone can check out www.ffc.gov for
information. What we do have right here up the block is an LPAM municipal
transmitter for local information of all sorts that when not activated
for an emergency plays a rebroadcast of the NWS VHF weather station with
a tape loop ID and description of the broadcaster's purpose.
Disconnected again so here's the rest as a paste job. (;->)
These transmitters have popped up wherever there's a need for information, along highways, airports, whatever. Power is 10W into a base loaded vertical antenna so they don't travel far and that's the whole idea on the crowded AM MW broadcast band but they serve the purpose and do it well. That is if you want to listen to a tape loop all day long. (;->)
Tank radio, flood, 2WET... you're asking for it Ray!
I've been through a few minor floods, thank goodness nothing major. My home town goes under water in the flood plain of the Rahway River and I've seen it in full flood, around here the lakes are holding basins for street runoff and they can only hold so much. Being about 20' AMSL ground water seepage is a problem especially since all of central and southern Jersey is sand, after a flood receeds it comes right up out of the ground and flows like a stream to the street and from there the sewers take it.
Oh don't tell be about silt, some years ago back in my home town the sewer backed up and flooded the basement and guess where I had my radio room and shop. Don't tell me about cleaning out silt, DON'T YOU DARE! (;->)
