Re Galena XTLS, I had a funny experience in my school days of making a
XTL radio.
My first XTL came from an early electronics shop, complete with holder
and wire/whisker mounted in a little hinged arm, to allow touching the xtl
in various places. Then followed hard won swaps with other
experimenters,to get pieces of XTL, in order to find one that gave the
strongest signals.
Then one day I was up at a school friends back yard and went down to
their defunct chooks yard, to find the ground covered in a 10cm layer of
brightly glistening chunks of what looked like coke.
I asked his dad what it was and he replied that he a decorative concreter
and used it in the mix, for effect making fountains.
Curious I took a piece home as it looked suspiciously like he tiny XTL, I
had in my detector.
I smashed the large chunk with a hammer and Lowe! after fitting in the
XTL detector, it worked far better than any of the other hard gained
pieces.
I then became the most popular kid around, with access to litterly tonnes
of the stuff.
Incidentally I had a chemistry set and duly put a piece of it in a test
tube and added hydrochloric acid. It bubbled and frothed and let of ROTTEN
EGG GAS, that pervaded the house and got me into no amount of trouble with
Mum.
Experimenting further after the jet black solution settled down, I added
water and Lowe, the solution turned scarlet RED. I as then regarded as
some sort of young magician, doing many demos to kids at school.
Finally the science teacher identified the chunks as GALENA.
