A sensible solution, sure. Look up the answer at www.microsoft.com.

A more sensible solution, don't break it and you wont need to fix it.

However, John, you need to relax and learn to laugh at yourself. Try it,
you'll feel so much better. It would have ever funnier if I'd have done the
same to my PC considering what I do for a living.

It's not like this is the 1st time you've installed some piece of bodgeware
and then come on here saying something a long the lines of "I've just
installed <X> from <Y> and now <Z> doesn't work. I have tried unistalling
<X> but that made things worse."

You must admit, you have made a post-retirement career out of chuffing your
Windows installation. I'd have thought that having busted up your
installation a few times you'd invest in a copy of Ghost, especially as
it's only 30ukp. You'll probably find older versions available secondhand
for considerably less. Then you can image your PC and experiment with all
the software you can find, safe in the knowledge that a quick click of the
mouse and your PC would back to normal in seconds. With no tears or grief!

It would pay for itself in no time at all and considering how you like
experimenting with software it really does suprise me you dont already have
it.

As for OE, well it sounds like the differences between it and Thunderbird
are marginal in usage.

Dad, well I haven't spoken to him for while, not since he got quite badly
burned. I must try getting in touch with him one day.
