Give the FT-817 a look. It covers the 6m band as well as 2m, 440 and
all the HF ham bands. Also receives the air traffic control band, the
FM broadcast band plus is a general coverage receiver from the AM
broadcast band all the way up through 30MHz. Although the power is only
five watts max, that's been enough for me to make all sorts of contacts
on HF and VHF.
If you want more power, the FT-857 or FT-897 are worth your attention.
