	Hi Andrew,
It seems, from the information given, that the gears in the first gear
selection chain whave possible a few teeth worn or missing. That ti does
not occur anywhere else t, then itwould likely be the first gear chain of
gears. A workshop manual, woth a  cutaway view of the gearbox contrnts,
whill likely reveal whick  set of gears engaged for first are used, I
would look along the inpur[t shaft then the layshaft(s). The one that is
disengaged when 2nd is selected will likely be the culprit. It nay be that
when 2nd or 3rd is selected, that there may well be 2 gears deselected.
These will be the ones to go for.
