This is just a quick bulletin to confirm that it's possible to use a
Nokia Communicator mobile phone on packet.

I have here a Nokia Communicator 9210i.

I've installed the DOS emulator XTM (www.nb-info.co.uk) and now I can
run my favourite DOS applications like Multiprop (propagation calculator),
QBASIC programs, packet programs like paKet,PAX,BPQ,Xrouter,WA7MBL's
YAPP.COM, 7PLUS,PKZIP,UUCODE etc.

Works a treat !

(The XTM software is only 196kb zipped).

The Nokia Communicator has 2 effective RS232 comports - the infrared
and the other being the connector at the bottom of the phone.

For the latter you simply connect the supplied DLR-2L cable to a null
modem adapter which then plugs into your TNC or any other device you
can use on a normal PC comport.

Thankfully I already had a homebrew adapter which I use to connect my
Psion Revo PDA (which uses both the EPOC32 system and I've also
installed the DOS XTM emulator on and run paKet 6.2 on).

(A null modem adapter is only 2 connector and wire links).

I have attached a small GIF file for the pin outs.

I am very pleased with my Nokia Communicator especially with the large
colour screen and qwerty keyboard.

It's darn useful to be able to have a device that I can run spreadsheets
as standard as well as have it as a handheld PC running my favourite
DOS programs on.

I don't think I could imagine life with a normal phone ever again ;-)
