> I often get 60mpg with 72 as the most ever got

Bah 72mpg is obscene, even if it is an oil burner :-)

Well I now have 4 spiffing new 205/70R15 HR Synchrones at a total cost of
221.35ukp fitted. The Synchrone is a 4x4 tyre but optimised for road
mainly.

These are inflated to the reccomended pressures of 26/28. I used to run
the previous tyres nearer the maximum allowed pressures which did improve
mpg at the expense of prematurely wearing the centres out. The fronts were
nasty Goodyear NCT Eagles which seriously lacked grip. The rears were the
original factory Bridgestones.

Waaah! Driving on new tyres is just fabulous. Apart from being at a lower
pressure, the quality of ride is wonderous. Even though my car has a silky
smooth Honda B20 140bhp engine and the previous ride was very good, the
improvement from riding on new boots is staggering. It is a lot quieter
than before aswell.

I'd go an test the offroad grip capabilities but 77p/L I'n not so inclined
to drive unless I need to :-(

I'll report on changes to consuption over the coming weeks.
