Hi Ray and others,

Hold on there Ray, what about the fact that prior to the white appearance
on the scene Australia was broken up into a whole lot of warring states.
It is my understanding that xenophobia was rife and any tribal member
straying into an adjacent tribal area was speared to death. I hope that
doesn't still apply if I vacation in VK2.

As for a wise understanding of the land, did I misunderstand something
when I read of thousands of acres being burnt out just so the Koori men
could wander through the ashes and pick up a few of the burnt animals for
tucker, totally ignoring all the rest of the wild life that was destroyed
in the process.

This may be true but it is not the exclusive right of the Australian
aboriginal, the same can be said for the American Indian, the Bushman and
any other race who's very survival depended upon that knowledge and
understanding of their environment. Even the Maories of New Zealand
claimed it and they arrived only a few years ahead of the white
settlement.

I personally stand amazed when I see the knowledge and wisdom of (white)
farmers when they make decisions on when to plant crops and so on.

You can even argue that I am wise and understanding in my chosen field.

What seems to be overlooked is that there is a very fundamental rule of
nature that applies to all species. When the environment changes then you
either adapt or die out. In my field when my valve environment changed to
transistorised, I adapted or died out.

With the introduction of the white pioneers into the Australian landscape
there was a sudden change in the environment in relation to the tribal
scene then existing. The adaption rate was very low. Those few that did
adapted are now the learned ethnic persons that David goes on about. To me
they are just Australians and I refuse to acknowledge difference based on
race or skin colour.

Almost exactly the same scene occurred with the Raj in India. A white
settlement took place but the indigenous people there adapted over time
and we now have an Indian Government and people that is in its own way the
equal of any other country. It has it's own sattelites, nuclear power,
and sadly enough it's own "under class".

There seems to be an ongoing urban myth promulgated about the "noble
savage". Back in the 1800's or even earlier there were societies
blathering on about that topic. For a full expose of the aims of those
societies google "noble savage". The parallels to todays urban myths are
very disheartening.
More later if anyone is interested.

                       Regards Tony VK3API
