Since you mentioned those kiddie ride trains people sit on rather than in 
you see at fairs you're right, they're not off the shelf items. Each is 
custom made by hand and when you look closely you can appriciate the 
craftmanship that went into them. Not only fairs but some people of means 
have them in varying scale on their estates, the smaller non ridable ones 
are garden railways. There's something to research on line or maybe catch 
a video or TV presentation, the subject is fascinating.
