Hi Luc and all,
Never mind the OS, I use ZoneAlarm firewall, it's free and works very
well. Any programs like thos ones that "report" or otherwise try to
connect to the Internet are blocked, no spying possible. Pings from the
outside are also blocked and all unused ports remain closed. It also
blocks the connection entirely when no data is being exchanged and has a
"panic button" which shuts down all Internet activity if any suspicious
activity is noticed.

I agree, especially in the free beer department (;->) but you forgot one
thing, free as in FREEWARE.
