The truth, the whole truth and nothing but... so goes the oath.
In the interests of the whole truth it is worth mentioning that, though
Fritz Haber developed several kinds of poison gas during WW I, we responded
in kind and gave or recipes to the USA.
During WW II things are even more murky.
In the book, The Rise and Fall of the Third Reich we get the story of the
assassination of Reinhardt Heydrich which involved a specially made bomb
anda sten gun which failed.
Anyone who gives the stories some thought would be ound to ask "why not a
normal,off the shelf Mills bomb?."Accusations that the bomb was a germ
weapon were hotly denied for 40 years the, finally, it was admited that the
bomb was a one off, made at Porton Down, containing Anthrax spores.
True, Anthrax was a popular, easy to make bio weapon but, back in the 1940s
ordinary GPs had occasional cases of patients who had caught Anthrax from
cattle and Heydrich showed none of these symptoms.
Later, the truth finally came out, the bomb was designed at Porton Down but
contained Botulinus Toxin, much harder to detect. Far from the bomb being a
one off, it seems that, due to shortage of production facilities. The
prototypes were sent to America where Uncle Sam made them in thousands.
There is no record of them being used. They were probably a last resort.
Back when Iraq was attacking Iran with poison gas. TV showed some unexploded
shells which, they said, Saddam had bought from Spain.
It seems odd that one of them had stencilled on it the words "Made at
Porton Down."
After Gulf War I, there were maps produced of factories which had been
discovered making chemical and biological weapons.
Why then the search for all these weapons of mass destruction?
We knew where they were in 1991, we had sold them to him as had several
other countries.
If a huge, heavily armed country tells a small, technologically inferior
one that they are going to attack it in a few months, it makes sense to
hide all sorts of things, including weapons. Saddam even hid his air
force and Migs are much bigger than shells.
Of course there were no weapons left in Iraq other than conventional army
weapons when the Yanks attacked. They were long gone. They are probably in
Iran, Syria, anywhere but in Iraq.
As for the US not making biochemical weapons - I still believe in the tooth
fairy too.
The source of most of the above is "A Higher form of Death", though it has
been superseded by a similar book with almost the same title which tells
exactly what they did have to do to Gruinard to make it habitable.
