My apologies for this. It was brought to my attention some time ago that
the instructions there needed to be updated. I'll get it done later
today.

I've been using OWW (One Wire Weather). It's been working fine for quite a few years now.

Well the same can be said about radio..is it really needed since the
internet can really take the place of it :-) ! OK that was just to make a
point, I do not follow that belief but believe me some do. Some people are
close enough as you are to use the data with some degree of accuracy but
many like to have a weather station just like many people like to build a
repeater. It's not necessary you can find other ways to talk without one,
and you can even "borrow" one from local hams that have gone to the expense
or other clubs but many people do put up their own. I do not build my own
gear anymore and some would not be involved in radio if they did not, to
each his own.
Amateur Metrology is very popular in the amateur ranks, or it may be that
meteorologists are into amateur radio. Others like me live about 10+ miles
from the closest public WX station and my weather is usually quite different
than at that small airport. Our wind and rainfall here is quite different
and since I am just getting into farming rain, temps, solar index, and most
of all the Fire Watch Index is VERY important to my family since we live in
the woods.
Accuracy and spot reporting is very important in many parts of the country.
I can tell you after living through 4 Hurricanes over a period of 2 years
that weather reports can be quite different on the "other side of town"
CRUCIALLY different!

Is a personal station really needed ? What about programs that steal
the data from your local small airport automated weather station. For
example, my airport is just 2 miles from my house, that seems close
enough for me. Using Weather Watcher I get a text file wx.txt that
is generated every few minutes.
as in ...
Weather here is currently...
Cloudy and Windy
Temperature: 44°F/6.7°C
Low today has been 41°F/5°C
Wind Chill 34°F/1.1°C
Wind: 28 mph
Visibility: 9.0 miles
Barometer: 29.69 inches and steady
>From a "template" that looks like
[Condition]
Temperature: [Temp]
Low today has been [TEMP LOW]
Wind Chill [Feels]
Wind: [WIND]
Visibility: [Visibility]
Barometer: [Barometer]
I wonder if anyone has played around with Weather Watcher (which is
free ) or similar products and modfied them for UI-View compatibility
?

I promised to let the group know if I was able to solve this problem.
It took a complete re-format and re-install of Vista. Now, UI-View 32
is working with the USB-Serial converter *in both directions*!
Thank you to everyone who offered suggestions.

4. having a problem

I built a new computer and installed UI-View. Then I copied the UI-View32
folder from the old machine into the UI-View 32 folder on the new machine.
Next I installed PMAPServer7. Then Precision maps and registered it.
Everything seems to be working except when I am disconnected from the APRS
Server the six green boxes remain on the screen.
Any ideas why and how I can fix this?
