Absolutely right. I was once a believer in democracy but I'm just a cynic
now. The example held up to us as kids was the USA.
They are in the news right now, of course.
All democracy means in that case is that the richest of a group of rich
men is in with a chance of being President.
Democracy is just the least harmful 'cracy out of a lot of systems.
Benevolent despots can be O.K. so long as they stay benevolent.
We used to get a quote from somewhere, knocked into us as children:
"Every soldier has a Field Marshal's baton in his pocket."
Whoever came up with that one had never been in the military,Hi!
It might be true if your father was a Field Marshal; if he wasn't an
officer, you don't stand much chance in any country, including the US.
