Whilst activity is down in many areas, SOTA has produced significant
increases in activity on 2m and to a lesser degree on 70cms. It helps if
you live reasonably near to some hills. So those in Merseyside surrounded
by Pennines, Lake District, Wales etc. will hear a lot more activity than
those in the flatlands. The popular misconception is that Kent, Essex,
Norfolk etc. are as flat as pancakes and that patently isnt true. But you
must admit that the Norfolk Mountain Rescue group doesnt get called out
very often compared to rescue groups in Scotland, Lake District etc. So you
might be straining to hear much of the SOTA activity that takes place ;-)
