Theis might sound to some people as though I have gone slightly insane.

I have been running Windows ME for over a year now, ever since it happened
to be installed on this second hand PC when I bought it.

The START button, bottom left, has always just expanded vertically showing
Windows Update. at the top, Programmes and all the usual options on the
way down.

Just now, while reading buletins in Winpack, I accidentally clicked on
START by mistake for UNREAD. (Sorry if you haven't got Winpack.)

The menu appeared but, for the first time ever, and I have re-installed
Win ME a few times, there is a vertical band up the left of the menu in
white, turning yellow further up and in three different fonts. The words:

WINDOWS Me Millenium Edition. The background fades from pale blue to
black.

I know I have never seen this before as it is very striking.

I exited Winpack completely and it still appears the same. It is quite
attractive so I have set a restore point just in case it vanishes.

This is so wierd, I though it worth mentioning.

Does everybody have this a s part of Win ME?

I had done nothing to the PC. I had re - installed TPK, which has been on
this PC before and today, while setting it up, with the Makelist
programme, I have been shelling out to DOS and back. Nothing I haven't
done before.

Maybe it has been there all along and I have maximised it somehow. It is
no big deal. Just a surprise.

BTW. I do use the START button several times a day, to switch off and to
run Scandisk, Defrag and Restore on a daily basis.

This PC is not connected to the internet so I haven't accidentally done an
upgrade, which could happen,I suppose to a PC on internet, especially
broadband.

The monitor has a very clever setup, with for buttons, allowing you to set
line and field linearity as well as width, height and centering. I actually
set that on an old testcard someone kindly sent me. I used it as wallpaper
for a while, so I know the linearity has been O.K.

Just another small mystery. 73. Ian.
