Perhaps I shpuldn't have used the word 'Legion' which was about 4000 - 5000
men.
Decomation, the killing of 1 in 10 of your troops was only used very rarely
and then only if the commanders suspected mutiny.
Welsh was taught in state schools in Wales from the 1970s onward until
somebody realised that immigrants were being taught their language and could
understand them. It dropped of a lot after that. Erse, Celtic and Cornish are
only learnt by a small number of patriotic natives and they are often treated
as a joke/
Of course, other languages are increasingl slightly but I think, even thay
will switch to American English for obvious reasons.
