I presume he meant what he wrote.
I'm not sure how familiar you are with the Classics, but in Greek poetry
for example, pouli is slang word for a bird. It's also slang for a certain
part of the male anatomy, which - for the sake of taste and decency, I
won't expand upon, but will leave it to the imagination of readers.
In the context of Warren's bull, I thought it was clever wordplay. He's
smarter than the average bird - more of an owl than a turkey.
The more inquisitive who'd like to bone up on Greek poetry and the meaning
of the word will find it buried in the pages of the link below, but I have
to warn you that it's rather longer than one of my rather longer
bulletins.
Ordinarily, you won't find much Greek poetry packet, just geek poetry,
and alliteration such as pointless pedantic packet punditry.
