OCTOBER 2012 MISSOURI SECTION NEWS
DALE BAGLEY, K0KY MO SM

I am so impressed by all the Amateurs who volunteered to help
with this year's Bike MS events. There were at least three MS
Rides in Missouri. The Express Scripts Gateway Getaway Ride that
was held around Columbia, MO, the Missouri Bike MS Ozark Ride
that started in Joplin, MO, and the Kansas City Ride MS that was
held in the western part of the State. I believe that there were
about 400 riders in the Express Scripts Gateway Ride MS. I don't
have the numbers for the other two rides, but I'm sure that they
were equally successful. In addition to the tens of thousands of
dollars that are collected for projects related to MS treatment
and research, the events are a great opportunity for Amateurs to
show their capabilities and to practice emergency communication.

As Cliff Ahrens, KOCA, the Midwest Director, noted in the Midwest
Division News, I have been declared re-elected to another term as
the Missouri Section Manager for another term beginning January
1, 2013. I am looking forward to the opportunity to continue
serving as the Missouri Section Manager. I will continue to do
my best to help the members and potential members of the ARRL.
All of the ideas and suggestions from the Missouri Section
membership I receive will be passed on to the ARRL Leadership and
Staff at ARRL HQ in Newington, CT.

I am going to take this opportunity to express my appreciation to
the MO Section Cabinet. The Missouri Section is blessed the have
Ken Baremore, W0KRB as its Section Emergency Coordinator and to
have the outstanding services of Section Traffic Manager, Larry
Wilson, K0RWL. I appreciate all the support of the ARRL program
that is provided by the Assistant Section Managers, Larry Ballew,
AB0HP, Bill Coby, KB0MWG, John Seals, WR0R, and Curtis Roach,
WB4NMG. Keith Haye, WE0G, does a wonderful job with the
Affiliated Club program as the Section ACC and Dennis McCarthy,
AA0A, who has been an important part of the Public Information
program as the Section PIC. I want to thank Wayland Mac McKenzie,
K4CHS's efforts as the Technical Coordinator. The Missouri
Section is fortunate to have Norm Lampton, KC0FNA as their
talented and hands on State Government Liaison. No one could be
prouder of the leadership and efforts of our Section Cabinet.

OCTOBER 2012 HAMFESTS

I'm looking forward to visiting with all the Hams that will be

There is always a great crowd at the Halloween Hamfest in
Kirkwood and I want to invite everyone to stop by the ARRL Table
to pick up a Halloween Treat and let me know what's on their
minds. The St. Louis Amateur Radio Club is hosting their annual
Halloween Hamfest on October 27, 2012 at the Kirkwood Community

AFFILIATED CLUB NEWS KEITH HAYE, WE0G, ACC
Please send club news to we0g@arrl.net or k0ky@arrl.org Thanks!

The Macon County Amateur Radio Club held their annual fall
cook-out and operating event Sept. 27th at Long Branch Lake
Marina Area in Macon, MO. Like most Amateur Radio Club picnic
there was a great evening of food and fellowship. The members
put-up a home-made multiband dipole and made some contacts on HF
after the meal was over. The MCARC is planning to have a special
event in 2013 to honor one of the outstanding Macon County
geniuses that have made outstanding contributions to the world.
The two candidates are R.T. Jones the inventor of the sweptback
wind for supersonic flight or Lester Dent, the author of
literally hundreds of books and articles and was the inventor of
respected formula to write adventure tales.

The Southwest Missouri Amateur Radio Club will be having a busy
month of October. They will be assisting with the Tour de Bass
on October 13th at rest stops, sag or sweep operators. James
Adkins, KB0NHX, is serving as the coordinator for this public
service event. SMARC members will be working at the October 20
Scout Jamboree. from 9am until 4pm. They will be using the
trailer from the Red Cross and volunteers will sit with the
radios and the boys as they get on the air. SMARC meets on the
3rd Sunday of the month at 5:00 p.m. They have a Volunteer Exam
session from 3:00 to 4:00 before the meeting. Those interested
are encouraged to attend.

The Northside Amateur Radio Club will be having their Fall picnic
on October 14th at Rock Island Park in Eldon, MO. The Club will
be providing the meat and the members bring a covered dish and
something to drink. One of the highlights will be a 2 meter fox
hunt using the members Radio Direction Finder equipment. The
Northside A.R.C. has a club repeater (2m) 146.625 - 131.8 T for
anyone to use. Club member, Luke Milka (N0QVO), maintains a 70cm
repeater, 444.500+ 127.3 T for public use.

The Southside Amateur Radio Club has a Saturday morning Breakfast
at 7:00 am at Bill & Deb's Cafe in Belton. Located on Hwy 58,
west of Y Hwy. Tom Hines, KC0TOM suggest that if you want a good
seat you need to get there early and to share the good food, good
friends, and good conversation! The SSARC is looking for a
Tuesday Night Net Control. The net begins at 8:00 pm on the 2
meter repeater 147.120+ PL 151.4 and SSARC members that are
interested in helping with the net need to contact the Net
Manager Horst Wendt HWendt@SBCGlobal.net and let him know.
