Part of ZL3AIs ruminations decided me to ask for opininons on something.
I was going to send it just to GBR but it's very likely that other
countries had the same experience.

Around my town, for the last few years, I have noticed a number of old
people. It wasn't 'til recently that I realised that some, like my next
door neighbour were my age or younger.

The mystery is how they dress like old people.

The neighbour, for example, can't help his bald head with the two fluffy
white bits either side. Why, though, does he wear baggy flannels,a jersey,
a long raincoat and sensible shoes.

A lot of people dress that way, some even wearing flat caps, just like
their
grandad wore.

The women wear long. often fploral dresses and 'little old lady'
hairstyles.

The point in my puzzlement is that I know that some of these people were
brought up to wear jeans, in fact they would have been wearing flares, the
kind teenage girls call 'bootleg jeans' now. They would have listened to
Joan Baez, Paul Simon, Bob Dylan and, of course, The Beatles and The
'Stones. Thery, at least don't dress that way. Even though it's Sir Paul
and Sir Mick now.

Men like my neighbour wouldn't have been seen dead in a flat cap like
grandad's.

The little old ladies, wore micro mini skirts and some wore so little that
they can't even be shown on TV reminiscence programmes like 'I heart the
70s' or I heart the 60s.

I'm feeling left out. I even asked in a well known store if there was a
hair dye you could use to colour your hair grey. Mine has this annoying
habit of staying black with only a few small bits of grey at the side.

The woman in the shop looked amazed at my request. When I mentioned that
actors wore such stuff she seemed satisfied.

I can always go out and buy the flat cap, tweed jacket, shirt and tie,
grey flannel trousers and brown shoes of the type called 'brogues'.

The trouble is, I prefer jeans, open shirts and trainers, with a crew cut.

I particularly liked Alans bit:-

How To Dress When You're Over 50
--------------------------------
Many of us "Old Folks" (those over 50 or hovering somewhere around 50) are
quite confused about how we should present ourselves. We're unsure about
the kind of image we are projecting and whether or not we are correct as
we
try to be nice and conform to the fashions that the designers in NYC,
California, and/or Paris inflict upon the world.

and what followed.

I do think looking like grandad, grandma, grandperson(?) is going a bit far.

     All the best - Ian, G0TEZ @ GB7YFS.#26.gbr.eu
