High Wind Watch

Statement as of 5:34 AM EDT on October 28, 2006

Expires 1:45 PM EDT on October 28, 2006

... High Wind Warning remains in effect from 10 am this morning to
6 PM EDT this afternoon...
... High Wind Warning in effect from 7 am to 6 PM EST Sunday...
... Wind Advisory remains in effect from 6 PM EDT this evening to
7 am EST Sunday...

The National Weather Service in Taunton continues the High Wind
Warning for today and a Wind Advisory for tonight. The high wind
watch for Sunday was converted to a High Wind Warning as confidence
is increasing in another round of damaging wind gusts on Sunday.

Southeast winds will quickly increase this morning. The strongest
winds reaching sustained speeds of 30 to 40 mph with gusts to 60 mph
will be from late morning through mid afternoon... especially near the
coast and over the Blue Hills. A few gusts could reach as high as 70
mph over the the Blue Hills. Pockets of wind damage and numerous
power outages are anticipated across the region.

Winds will shift to southwest late today and diminish to 25 to 35
mph with gusts close to 45 mph... but will pick up again on Sunday.
Damaging west wind gusts of 45 to 55 mph could occur on
Sunday... especially during the afternoon hours.

The combination of the wind... still partially leafed trees... and
a wet ground due to heavy rainfall on Saturday will result in
downed trees and power lines both Saturday and Sunday.

A Wind Advisory is issued when sustained winds are forecast to be
31 to 39 mph or gusts will range between 46 and 57 mph. Driving
can also be difficult... especially for high profile vehicles.

A High Wind Warning is issued when sustained winds of 40 mph are
expected for at least an hour... with gusts of 58 mph or greater at
any time. Damage to trees... power lines... and property are possible
with wind of this magnitude. Power outages are likely. Take action
now to secure any loose outdoor objects.
