Hello Ian the snake oiler,
Hmmm, how much fun watching a certain TV Aussie trying to catch an oiled
snake! (;->)
Hey! Let Bob VK6BE in on that resonant gas, he sure could use some. That
makes me wonder, he's poking around with some antennas, maybe you could
send him a can of beans...
OK enough chop busting, on with the show!

A while back, someone wrote about mounting speakers upside down on top of
sewer pipes making a sort of bass radiator. A certain company which will
remain nameless did just that, but used a multi laminate design combining
woofer and tweeter in one driver. You may recognize the only clue I'll
give, the model was F.

My friend called them upside down popcorn poppers, well, that's what they
looked like and frankly would have served that purpose much better. We
went into the sound room at a local dealership and used the heartbeat
which starts off Pink Floyd's Dark Side Of The Moon to test the accuracy
of several types of speakers, the bass notes which follow will show up
any strange resonaces, squeaks or rattles too.

We tested several before the salesman came in and by that time we had a
2KW amplifier running the show. We switched to the "F"s and cranked that
sucker WAY up, naturally the fuses blew right away. AW! Not LOUD enough!
This went on, several boxes of fuses later we told him he's trying to
sell a pair of very expensive dummy loads and we would do better woth a
pair of Radio Shack Omni 5s.

We walked out with that poor guy wondering if we were deaf, totally
confused. It just goes to show it's not ONLY Rat Shack where "If you have
questions, we have blank stares".

As for me, I have a 100W amp driving a pair of rather modified
Electrohome air suspension woofers with a couple of Phillips mylar dome
tweeters I installed quite a few years ago. I have literally cracked
windows with them, so that snake oil salesman can keep his F model dummy
loads and use them upside down as right side up popcorn poppers.

BTW, hey Ian, have you ever heard of Emu oil? Some brilliant huckster is
trying to sell that stuff to the ladies here in the US. Somestink tells
me kangaroo poop would work as a mud pack...
