Well yes I guess there would be some ionisation around the phone.
However what value of resistance would the ionisation add to the lightning
path ?
What fraction of the resistance from the cloud to the ground would the mobile
phone path insert ?
I'll mmake a guess the mobile would be about 200 ohm and the path from the
cloud to the phone would be megohms ????
Really a direct strike would probably leave only a little more than ash on
the ground. The path of the strike would be perhaps half a metre in diameter
or pehaps more. Enough to completely envelop any such unfortunate person.
I have never heard of anyone surving a direct strike. Most people killed by
lightning are killed by ground currents where their feet are placed across a
large voltage drop in the ground.
The lesson, stand on one foot and crouch down.
