Windows 98 nearly drove me up the wall. Error messages, slow response,
"illegal operations" with lock up of the system, the "fatal error" blue
screen, I had them all and comparing with others using 98 it seems they
had them too..
Finally I installed Windows XP and all those problems disappeared. It is
easy to use, the blue screen and the illegals have never appeared.
INoticeable also was a distinct increase in speed of operation with XP.
For a browser I gave away MIE from the beginning except for one or two
sites which will only work for Explorer. I used Netscape for years up to
Netscape 7 but then tried Mozilla. I am still using Mozilla. It works very
well.
Just my experience for what it's worth. By the way I use the computer for
two secretary's jobs I carry out, so it is for more than private use.
