Hello , especially dr OM Ian

Precisely , data loss over long time in magnetic media.
Media of that sort corrupted by the magnetic fields of the
earth?
Hugh...More by time , in its own little environment.
Shure , the Earth Magnetics help , but I would rather call
it insignificant.
I have tried to "erase" a regular Stiffy , one of the 1,44
Megathingies type by an eraser, producing a field of 4700AT
(AT , havent heard it b4 , Australian made - maybe that
explains it? Hehe...but seriously, it is a commercial 50 hz
demagnetizer for , say "regular" monitor degaussing.) Well I
tried that repeatedly on a floppy , for several minutes ,
repeatedly and the thing still runs. what now?

And look here for magntic tape on a analog system , you will
have first degradation ...e.g. noise , dropuots and such.
but for a digital media , like an executive programme on a
floppy , one missing (corrupted) bit on an important point
and off you go. Dead.
And , I cant say it from experience , only heard it from
"knowledgeable" people , and time will tell , that CDs are
also susceptible to time degradation.
Whatever that means.
These things have not been around long enough.
Sepias, Daguerres and "photographies" have.
