    Hi Ray,
I have tried your way but no success from my side.
I think we would need a willing C programmer to check the source codeand maybe find a solution to solve this.
I hope some of them are reading this....hihi

I had problems using debian when I setup my bbs last year. I went to redhat and that disappeared.
Looked very much like your display.

I am using a bash shell now

Hello Ray,
I have also running 'dpkg-reconfigure dash' answering 'no' when it asked to
install dash as /bin/sh, but nothing changed in the windows client :(

I tried to run xfbbC on the linux machine, and when i ask for directory
listing.......there is the same problem !!!!!
So I think we need to solve the problem on the linux machine.

I will try to download the fbb source, compile it and then try to substitute
xfbbC

I wouldn't be too hasty in suggesting Debian, per se, is the problem.
I've only ever run Debian here (apart from a short stint at playing with
Kubuntu which is also Debain) and although I've seen Simone's problem
twice, I'd be reluctant to blame the distro. I wish I'd taken more
notice of the circumstances under which it happened. I could almost
convince myself that it was something I was doing at the time .... almost.

Hi Simone,

It was worth a try, bad luck that bash didn't help.

xfbbC is only the console client to talk to the daemon so I can't
imagine changing that would have any effect on the problem. Perhaps you
meant xfbbd, the daemon.

When I connected using xfbbC and then gave the dir command I got kicked
off the bbs so I'll have to fix that little problem before I can see
what I get with a listing.

I was looking again at the screen dump you posted and I saw something
this time that I missed the first time. If you look at the date column
the numbers are all the same. 4274373/13 appears in every row. Can
anyone make sense of that number sequence? Where does it come from?

Simone, what kernel do you use, and did you compile fbb or did you
install from packages?

BTW, if you compile fbb on later 2.6 kernels (I don't know about early
2.6 kernels) you'll get an error at runtime and fbb won't run. This is
due some security fixes in the kernel that detect stack overflow. The
work around for that is to compile fbb with the -fno-stack-protector
option. Just add the option to the end of the CFLAGS line in
<fbbsrc>/src/Makefile so that fbb compiles without stack protection.
Since fbb wasn't previously checked for stack overflow it doesn't break
anything that wasn't already broken.

I first encountered this problem on a Kubuntu system when I compiled a
newer kernel. fbb then ceased to run.
